MusicFest Vancouver goes down under for its 10th anniversary
By Janet Smith
Melbourne’s a cappella quartet the Idea of North performs twice at this year's MusicFest Vancouver.

Tickets go on sale June 1 for this summer’s MusicFest Vancouver, which runs August 6 to 15 at venues around the city.

The fest, devoted to classical, world, and jazz genres, is celebrating its 10th anniversary with an ode to Oz. Guests in the Music of Australia series include Melbourne’s a cappella quartet the Idea of North (August 14); the Freshwater Trio (August 10 and 11); and pianist Rita Reichman, who salutes Chopin’s 200th anniversary in a recital (August 10), with all those shows at Christ Church Cathedral. Didgeridoo artist William Barton headlines an outdoor show called Sounds of Australia on August 15 at VanDusen Botanical Garden (where the Idea of North appears again).

Other big names include Concerto Kí¶ln (August 7) and an Early Music Vancouver production of Claudio Monteverdi’s Vespers of 1610 (August 12), both at the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts. The full roster of more than 40 concerts is at www.musicfestvancouver.ca/, with tickets at ticketmaster.ca/.
